On commercial vinyl flooring jobs, the seams matter as much as the floor itself. Here is a look at one step our crew handles on commercial installs in South Florida: heat-welding the seams on sheet vinyl.

What heat welding does
Once the vinyl is down and the seams are prepared, a hot-air welding gun melts a vinyl weld rod into the seam. The rod fuses with the edges of the flooring, so the joint becomes part of the floor instead of a gap between two pieces.

Why commercial spaces use welded seams
A welded seam helps keep dirt and moisture from working into the joints, which makes the floor easier to clean and maintain. That is why heat-welded vinyl is a common choice for busy commercial spaces.
Trimming the weld flush
After the rod cools, the excess is trimmed off so the weld sits level with the floor surface. The result is a smooth, continuous seam line.
